Position Description:

The Engineering Specialist will support sales, engineering, and production activities for all digital products which interact with third party host control systems. Emphasis will be placed on key customers facing connectivity / interoperability with host systems such as ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, Invensys, Rockwell, Siemens, Yokagowa etc. via a wide selection of wired and wireless protocols and technologies. The Engineer will combine technical knowledge with sales skills to execute defined global strategies, such as Valvesight, aimed at increasing profitability among products within FCO’s Automation Group. Additionally, the Engineer will work, as assigned by the Product Manager of Host Integration, on technical tasks related to deliverables for Product Development (PD), Technology Development (TD), Continuous Improvement Process (CIP), pricing, or general marketing projects. In so doing, the Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of multiple colleagues from a range of departments, such as sales, engineering / R&D, manufacturing, and purchasing / supply chain to ensure that all assigned project objectives are reached.

Principal Accountabilities:

Within the boundaries defined by the Engineering Manager, Sales and Product Development for Automation Products, assist with:

  • Targeting new customers to increase product awareness and develop new opportunities with existing customers on a project basis or day to day equipment requirements. Customers consist of Engineering Firms, Systems Integrators, OEMs, End Users, and Electrical Contractors.

  • Helping customers conceptually design new applications, migrate from older technology, and upgrade from lower cost solutions in many industries including Oil & Gas, Power, Chemical, Water/Wastewater, and Mining.

  • Developing and growing long-term relationships with customers by providing technical assistance and recommendations on various aspects of digital network interoperability with Host control systems.

  • Augmenting sales efforts by providing pre-sales digital control application assistance and problem solving with regards to spec reviews, take-offs, product selection, and preparing proof of concept demos.

  • Interacting directly with customers, as required, to ensure that the Voice of the Customer (VOC) is effectively communicated to the Business & Product Development - Automation Products group.

  • Promoting/coordinating after-sales support services, such as training and field service activities in conjunction with the aftermarket/field service department.

  • Making technical presentations and demonstrating how a digital product meets the client’s needs.

  • Assist with developing sales campaigns to help motivate, guide, and increase sales through Flowserve regional sales managers and sales account representatives.

  • Creating necessary tools and collateral required to promote and sell the products, and conduct associate and customer training on those tools and collateral.

Within the boundaries defined by Sales and Engineering, implement product and technology development project objectives for digital products portfolio, and linkages to other FCO product portfolios. This includes:

  • Assisting the Product Manager – Host Integration with the creation of Project Charters, for Product or Technology Development projects, that are clearly bounded in time, scope, and cost, for each project defined within the digital product plan.

  • Assisting the Product Manager – Host Integration with the creation of Marketing Requirement Definitions (MRDs), for Product or Technology Development projects, that are clearly defined in product functionality, performance, constraints, hardware/software interface, standards, certifications, and interoperability for each project defined within the digital product plan.

  • Executing the project engineering process including budgets for each project with selected milestones and key decision points, the establishment of project review meetings to assess progress against plan and ensuing actions.

  • Fulfilling Project Manager delegated responsibilities, including day-to-day interaction with third party developer’s designated representative, as well as coordination of all internal project related activities performed by Flowserve.

  • Coordinating of all technical activities on assigned digital product projects. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates assigned engineering work; monitors work for compliance to Marketing Requirement Definition (MRD), Software Requirement Specification (SRS), applicable standards, accepted engineering procedures, and Flowserve product development best practices.

  • Ensuring effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines/departments and all other project participants.

  • Supporting marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events.

  • Participating on Flowserve sponsored technical association working groups.

  • Scheduling and participating in Host Interoperability System Testing (HIST) of Flowserve digital products and major manufacturer’s DCS/PLC/AMS offerings.

Position can sit out of Flowserve facility in Lynchburg, TN or Houston, TX or Vernon, CA.

Position Requirements:

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required (Electrical, or Computer) or other related technical field.

  • Minimum of 8 years experience in design or applications of industrial instrumentation & controls equipment utilized in the process automation industry.

  • Proven industrial digital communication experience with a history of device commissioning.

  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Domestic and international travel required (25-35% travel).

  • Must be US citizen, NOFORN required

Preferences:

  • Wireless communication experience, in an industrial environment is preferred.
